CHAS (Community Health Assist Scheme) subsidises common dental treatments for eligible Singapore Citizens at registered clinics. Covered treatments include consultations, scaling and polishing, dental X-rays, fillings, root canal treatment, simple extractions, dentures, and in some cases crowns. The subsidy amount depends on your card — Blue, Orange, Merdeka Generation, or Pioneer Generation.
CHAS is a Ministry of Health programme — see the official CHAS website for scheme details. All 4 Caring Dental clinics are CHAS registered, and our front desk handles the subsidy for you at the point of payment. Here’s how the scheme works, updated for 2026.
Who Is Eligible for CHAS?
CHAS is available to Singapore Citizens, with eligibility tiered by household income:
| Card Type | Eligibility | Subsidy Level |
|---|---|---|
| CHAS Blue | Monthly per capita household income $800 or below, or Annual Value of home up to $21,000 | Highest subsidies |
| CHAS Orange | Monthly per capita household income $801–$1,200, or Annual Value $21,001–$25,000 | Moderate subsidies |
| Merdeka Generation | All Merdeka Generation seniors | Subsidies for covered dental treatments, including scaling and polishing |
| Pioneer Generation | All Pioneer Generation seniors | Enhanced subsidies across treatments, including scaling and polishing |
You can check your eligibility or apply at chas.sg.
What Dental Treatments Are Subsidised?
Whether you hold a CHAS Blue, CHAS Orange, Merdeka Generation, or Pioneer Generation card, you can receive subsidies on a range of essential dental treatments:
- Consultation and examination
- Scaling and polishing (teeth cleaning)
- Dental X-rays (including full-mouth OPG scans)
- Fillings (tooth-coloured fillings)
- Root canal treatment
- Simple extractions (non-surgical tooth removal)
- Dentures (full and partial)
- Crowns (in some cases)
The exact subsidy amount varies based on your card type and the treatment.
What CHAS Does NOT Cover
CHAS covers essential care, not cosmetic or orthodontic treatment:
- Braces and Invisalign
- Teeth whitening and veneers
- Wisdom tooth surgery — but this is usually Medisave claimable up to $1,720 per tooth instead (see our Medisave guide)
How to Use Your CHAS Card at the Dentist
Using your CHAS card at Caring Dental takes four steps:
- Bring your CHAS, Merdeka Generation, or Pioneer Generation card and NRIC to your appointment
- Present it at registration — our staff verify your eligibility
- Receive subsidised treatment — the subsidy is applied directly to your bill
- Pay the balance — you only pay the remaining amount after subsidy
There are no claim forms to fill in — the subsidy is deducted on the spot.
Can You Combine CHAS With Other Benefits?
Yes. You can stack your savings:
- Pioneer/Merdeka Generation benefits provide additional subsidies on top of standard rates
- Corporate or personal insurance can cover the balance — CHAS subsidies are applied before insurance claims
- Medisave covers surgical procedures that CHAS doesn’t (which treatments qualify)
See our insurance and Medisave page for the full list of accepted insurers and payment methods.
